Trinity Hill Homage Gimblett Gravels Syrah 2018

Trinity Hill is one of Hawke’s Bay’s most respected wineries. Founded in 1993 by winemaker John Hancock and partners Robyn and Robert Wilson, the estate was established with the vision of crafting premium wines that showcased the unique terroir of Hawke’s Bay.

The winery’s early focus was on Bordeaux-style blends and Syrah, recognizing the region’s potential for these varieties. A major turning point came in the late 1990s when Trinity Hill became one of the pioneering producers in the Gimblett Gravels, a sub-region of Hawke’s Bay, with stony, free-draining soils that mirror the terroir of Bordeaux’s Left Bank.
Trinity Hill gained international acclaim with its Homage Syrah, a tribute to the legendary Rhône Valley winemaker Gérard Jaboulet, and has continued to expand its portfolio with Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc, and alternative varietals.

Grapes were hand-picked from selected vineyard blocks, with each parcel fermented individually. Total skin contact ranged from 16 to 35 days, depending on the desired structure. Matured for 12–15 months in French oak barriques (35% new), with one component aged in a large oak oval for added nuance. Blended and bottled in stages between July and September 2019, this Syrah combines richness with refinement.
