What Sustainability Means to Us

Kiwi Cru is about bringing you great wines, made by outstanding people who are committed to sustainability and to leaving the planet better than they found it.

And the impressive thing is that’s not such a tall order when it comes to New Zealand. They have put sustainability at the heart of what they do for decades now. In fact, the industry implemented a Sustainable Winegrowing certification programme as long ago as 1995.

And today, New Zealand is a global leader in low intervention wine making.

Facing the Food Miles Question Facing the Food Miles Question

Facing the Food Miles Question

Do Food Miles Matter?

How can a wine be considered sustainable if it’s travelled from New Zealand? It’s an obvious question. Wouldn’t it be better came from somewhere nearer to the UK?

Well, 'Yes' and 'No'

‘Yes’, if the only measure of environmental impact were emissions from transport, and ‘no’, if all the other factors which contribute to a complex process from grape to glass are taken into account.

World Class Wine Production

And that’s where New Zealand wine production is the best in the world. Particularly their focused efforts on efficient water use, zero waste to landfill, enhancing the health of soils and regenerative agriculture.

Net Zero by 2050

The recent launch of Roadmap to Net Zero (carbon neutral) by 2050 is a testament to their work (once it arrives in the UK it’s up to us).

Climate Considerate Couriers

Road transport is something we can’t avoid, but we can make choices about how we do it and who we work with. Which is why your deliveries are made by UPS, committed to being a net positive organisation.

Packaging with Purpose

When you receive a Kiwi Cru delivery, you’ll find the box is brown cardboard (non-coloured boxes require fewer chemicals to make). It’s made from recycled material and uses soy-based ink for our logo.

Sealed with a gummed paper-water activated tape, which is the only tape on the market that is 100% recyclable, biodegradable and manufactured from renewable materials.

Once you’ve opened it, you’ll see that the packaging is also made from 100% recycled materials, called PulpSafe. It’s light (so easier to transport), and like the box, it’s completely recyclable. We also like it because it’s really effective at minimising breakages, which means there’s less transportation and packaging necessary as a result.
