Ripe cherry and smoky bacon vibes. Fleshy and medium-bodied with powdery tannins – Pinot with a bit of muscle and plenty of charm.

Awards/Reviews

Te Kano Estate, a family-owned winery in Central Otago, New Zealand, was established by the Lloyd family, whose journey began with the purchase of a vineyard on the famed Felton Road in Bannockburn, followed by the discovery of the breathtakingly beautiful Northburn site.

Their vision to rejuvenate the land and produce exceptional wines. Indeed, the name ‘Te Kano’ means ‘The Seed’ in Māori, and reflects their commitment to restoring a landscape which was altered for the worse by decades of gold mining dating back to the mid nineteenth century. It’s a commitment symbolise by an ancient Kōwhai tree, once common in the area, and which they are now re-establishing (they have propagated over 900 so far).

The estate focuses on crafting premium quality, artisanal wines, through sustainable viticulture and minimal intervention winemaking.

Regeneration Project

Te Kano is Māori for seed. It reflects the estate's commitment to regeneration and growth by replanting over 8000 native plants, inspired by an ancient Kōwhai tree on its property of which they have propagated over 900 so far.

BioGro Certified Organic

The Eliza and Jerome vineyards at Te Kano are both BioGro certified, with the Eliza Vineyard producing its first certified organic vintage in 2020.

Winemaker

With his pursuit of perfection and spirit of innovation, Dave Sutton has made Te Kano one of the rising stars of New Zealand wine. He is especially known for his sensitive handling of Pinot Noir and Chardonnay and even a quirky white - Fumé Blanc de Noir.
