Akitu A2 Pinot Noir 2020
This is seriously drinkable. Lovely floral cherry fruit with some hints of pepper and some autumn leaves on the nose. Balanced impressively by the silky tannins and fresh acidity. This is a deep, brooding style of Pinot with the subtle, savoury elegance that we expect of the regions top producers.
Grapes were from Dijon clones and hand harvested from Akitu’s single estate vineyard 16th -17th April 2019. 20% whole bunch, with a balance of whole berries, were used in fermentation with indigenous yeasts. Fermentation lasted 12-16 days. Gentle cap management ensure a softer tannin structure. Aged for 15 months in older oak barrels to allow micro-oxygenation to soften tannins, while avoiding overt oak influence. Only 7% were new oak (compared to A1’s 20%). Bottled on 19th March 2020, unfined and unfiltered.
