Pyramid Valley Lion's Tooth Chardonnay 2020
A wonderfully racy wine, with notes of lemon peel, toasted brioche, grilled hazelnuts with subtle stone fruits. Long, linear and complex, this is a joyful drop now but should age beautifully for well over a decade.
The vines were densely planted from 2000-2002 on a steeply inclined, east facing home block. Farmed biodynamically from inception the soils have a nut and crumb structure and great mineral fertility: 30% clay, 15-20% active lime. Hand-picked on 11th April 2020, the grapes were foot stomped and whole bunch pressed. Vineyard yeast ferment, in aged French oak barrels. 20 months on lees in barrel. Then aged on light lees for 6 months in stainless steel prior to bottling unfined and unfiltered in June 2022.
