Sorrell The Wrekin Chardonnay 2022

Sorrell Wines is a boutique Marlborough label founded by Daniel Sorrell in 2021, after a decade working vintages across France, the US, Australia, and New Zealand.
Dan’s focus is on organic, single-vineyard wines - Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay, and Pinot Noir - from some of Marlborough’s most expressive sub-regions. These are thoughtful, finely tuned wines made in small batches, with a clear respect for both the land and the people farming it.

He believes terroir and exceptional viticulture are crucial to the craft of winemaking, and he’s chosen to work with what he regards as “exceptional vineyards” and growers in Auntsfield, The Wrekin, and Churton - each with very individual characteristics, which he strives to reflect in the wines. “I want to showcase the vineyards and fruit purity” he says, “connecting the wine back to the land it came from”.

The grapes were 100% hand-picked from ‘The Wrekin’ vineyard and gently whole bunch pressed. After settling in tank, the juice was racked and inoculated with yeasts. After two days of fermentation the wine was cooled and transferred to old French barriques. In spring, malolactic fermentation occurred naturally. The wine aged for 16 months on lees before blending and bottling.
