Tiraki Single Vineyard Chardonnay 2023

Tiraki Wines is a small, family-owned winery in Marlborough’s Wairau Valley, launched in 2020 by Josh, EllaRose and Tyler Hammond returning to their family’s Longfield Farm, where six generations have farmed the land since 1870. The name Tiraki, meaning “clearing of the sky” in te reo Māori, reflects the natural phenomenon created by the Marlborough hills – a unique place to make wine.

Tiraki is New Zealand’s first B Corp certified wine label, a commitment that shapes everything from vineyard practices to packaging. Certification reflects their focus on ethical business, environmental responsibility, and community wellbeing.

The wine range includes Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc, Pinot Gris, Rosé, and Pinot Noir - all crafted with an emphasis on clarity, texture, and restraint. Their Chardonnay is especially compelling: wild fermented, lees-aged, and delicately oaked, it delivers fine citrus, flint, and subtle saline depth in a crisp, mineral-driven style.

The grapes come from the Longfield Farm hill block, planted on clay soils. Hand picked and whole bunch pressed. The juice was lightly settled overnight and then transferred to a mixture of french oak barriques and puncheons for fermentation, 20% of which were new. The wine underwent natural malolactic fermentation in the spring and was racked to tank in February prior to bottling in March - with a total of 3,200 bottles produced.
