Rapaura Springs

Marlborough

Rapaura Springs is a family-owned winery rooted in the heart of Marlborough, New Zealand’s most renowned wine region. Founded in 2007, the estate has grown with quiet confidence, earning a place among the country’s leading producers. The name references the spring-fed waters that pass through the property - an enduring symbol of vitality and renewal. These natural springs play a practical and symbolic role, cooling vine roots and underscoring a deep respect for place.

Rapaura Springs remains firmly committed to sustainable practices, thoughtful vineyard management, and expressive winemaking. The wines - led by Sauvignon Blanc, but also including Pinot Noir, Chardonnay, and aromatic whites - are celebrated for their clarity, freshness, and structural balance. Through a mix of generational stewardship and contemporary insight, Rapaura Springs continues to evolve while maintaining a strong sense of identity within Marlborough’s landscape.

Mike Bann

Winemaking at Rapaura Springs is guided by a commitment to clarity, site expression, and precision. At the heart of this is a skilled team led by chief winemaker Mike Bann, whose deep knowledge of Marlborough and hands-on approach ensures each wine reflects its vineyard origin. Bann is known for his meticulous attention to detail and instinctive feel for balance and structure, honed over years of working with Marlborough’s key varietals.
Alongside him, Matt Thomson, one of New Zealand’s most highly regarded winemakers, serves as a founding consultant. With a global career spanning Europe and Australasia, Thomson’s influence brings technical depth and stylistic refinement to the Rapaura Springs portfolio.

Together, they favour a low-intervention, vineyard-driven philosophy, using modern techniques with restraint. The result is a range of wines that are precise, expressive, and grounded in Marlborough’s distinctive landscape.

Echoes of Water and Land

Echoes of Water and Land

Rapaura Springs sources fruit from a mosaic of vineyard sites across Marlborough, each contributing distinct layers of aroma, flavour, and structure. The Bull Paddock Vineyard in Dillons Point is known for its deep alluvial soils and proximity to the coast, yielding Sauvignon Blanc with electric acidity, minerality, and aromatic lift. In Rapaura, the Springs Vineyard benefits from a natural water source that flows beneath the vines, slowing ripening and enhancing concentration. Here, loam, gravel, and schist combine to create soils that drain well yet hold just enough tension to shape detailed, textural wines.

Sustainability is deeply integrated into viticultural practices, with a focus on soil health, biodiversity, and water stewardship. Rapaura Springs is Sustainable Winegrowing New Zealand certified, and its use of spring water underscores a careful balance between resource and result. The wines are an honest reflection of this synergy – and the place they have come from.

“Our label and our name represent our intimate connection to the pristine waters that collect high in the Southern Alps, bubble up in our own Rapaura Springs, and feed our vines.”
