Domain Road

Central Otago

Domain Road Vineyard is a boutique, family-owned estate nestled in the heart of Bannockburn, one of New Zealand’s most renowned wine regions. Owned by Graeme and Gillian Crosbie, whose ties to the area go back generations, the vineyard was established in 2002 on a former apricot orchard. Their passion for the land and fascination with wine led them to plant Pinot Noir, Sauvignon Blanc, and Riesling, later expanding in 2011 with additional vines including Chardonnay and Pinot Gris and a second vineyard of 10 hectares adjacent to Felton Road.

Surrounded by dramatic goldfields and mountain landscapes, the vineyard thrives in hot summers and crisp autumns, ideal for crafting cool-climate wines. With a focus on quality and traditional techniques, Domain Road produces award-winning wines now enjoyed across New Zealand and internationally. Their commitment to excellence reflects a deep connection to Bannockburn’s rich history and unique terroir.

From Gold to Grapes

From Gold to Grapes

Domain Road Vineyard lies in a sun-drenched, sheltered valley on the upper terraces of Bannockburn, Central Otago, a sub-region renowned for its unique soils and dramatic climate. Parts of the land were reshaped by 19th-century gold mining, leaving distinct soil profiles. Pinot Noir is planted in untouched areas, while Riesling thrives in mineral-rich pipeclay, exposed where gold-bearing gravels were stripped away. Sauvignon Blanc spans two blocks - Templars Hill, a schist gravel base topped with loam, and a second site on pipeclay soils.

The continental climate delivers hot days and cold nights, with temperature swings up to 25°C, ideal for flavour concentration and preserving acidity.
Nearby, the Defiance Vineyard on Felton Road adds loam-over-schist soils and a clay-rich corner. Managed by the Crosbies’ son, Steven, both vineyards are sustainably farmed and transitioning to organic certification.

“Our vineyards are in a high altitude setting, surrounded by spectacular mountain ranges. The challenging terroir produces wines of structure and elegance, with pure, intense flavours.”
