Coal Pit Tiwha Pinot Noir 2019
The flagship Pinot Noir ‘Tiwha’ pays tribute to the owner's late father. An elegant yet powerful wine. Delivers strawberries and sour cherries, herbal notes, star anise, cloves and a hint of brewed coffee. Balanced with the delightful acidity for which this elevated Coal Pit site is known.
The Pinot Noir grapes were hand-harvested between 7th April and 10th May 2019, at Coal Pit’s organically farmed vineyard, planted on glacially formed schist-based soils. The fruit was crushed and destemmed, then cold soaked for 4-6 days before temperature-controlled fermentation utilising indigenous yeasts. The wine was aged for 10 months in French oak, of which 28% was new. Bottling was 9th-10th March 2020.
